OUTREACH SERVICES FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE.

Lokmanya; Outreach services for Elderly always aims at finding new avenues to expand its healthcare initiatives and provide qualitative care to the needy elderly in urban slums and rural areas of north Pune. One such outreach project was taken up by our team, as social mapping with demographic data was done in urban slums of PCMC, Pune; Free Health Check-up facilities were provide in slums through various health check-up camps and disability aids distributed Linkages were also made with Sr. Citizens clubs and helping elders to form self help health promotion groups and more time was spent on health counseling cum education, be it for individuals or groups.

Specialized home visits to bed ridden and sick elderly patients with Orthopeadic problems were conducted, restoring their mobility & strength, resulting in a positive attitudinal change among family members towards their elders. On the other hand we went beyond basic healthcare and provided: physiotherapy to these patients through our physiotherapists, physiological therapy, yoga & meditation classes, disability aids, counseling and conducted multi-specialty camps.

FREEDOM FROM ARTHRITIS: AN AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON KNEE AND JOINT ALMENTS: 30 May 2009.

Knee and Joint Problems are on increasing trend amongst Elderly People. To create awareness on resent advances in the field of knee and joint replacement and minimal invasive techniques for knee surgery an awareness programme for Sr. citizens of PCMC was organised at Prof. Shri. Ramakrishna More Sabhagruha, PCMC Auditorium, Chinchwad. This programme was jointly organised by Lokmanya and RTI forum for Sr. Citizens instant information Maharashtra State, Sr. Citizens federation PCMC, Dr. V.G.Vaidya Managing Trustee, LFM inaugurated the function in presence of guest of honor Dr. Shriram Pandey; President of RTI Forum for instant information for sr. Citizen, Mr. Vivek Inamdar, Chief Editor mypimprichinchwad.com and Mr. Prashat Wani, Managing Director, Info media Pvt. Ltd were also present. Dr. Narendra Vaidya, Chief Orthopeadic Surgeon addressed the audience on “Freedom for Arthritis” . While talking on the subject he stressed on elderly health care, diet, lifestyle change exercise and informed about the new knee prosthesis and demonstrated virtual knee surgery. Dr. Deepali Salvi, Physiotherapist demonstrated exercise for freedom from joint pain. This was followed by lecture on diet for fitness and obesity; Atharwa theater artists presented a comedy show “Munnabhai chi Dokedhuki”. This programme was attended by 300 elderly people from 51 Sr. Citizens club PCMC.
